tART Collective

Article by Mia McKenzie

tART's Suzanne Broughel worked for two years with Christopher Hutchinson to organize this collaboration between tART and Smoke School of Art (SSA) in Atlanta. The exhibition, forum and workshops are rooted in the first reading by tART in 2016 (of a series of readings organized by Broughel): "How Can White Women Include Women of Color in Feminism? Is a Bad Question. Here's Why," by Mia McKenzie.

Collective Archive

Exhibition Part I: June 8th - June 23rd. (Exhibition Part II opens June 28th). 111 Front St., #208, Dumbo, Brooklyn. Hours are Saturdays 1 PM - 6 PM

For this tART exhibition, tART co-organizers and co-curators, Kathleen Vance and Jodie Lyn Kee-Chow, examine the multifaceted aspects of their collective through an archive of member projects.  A table doubles as an archive of the past as well as a work-station for a future zine that visitors are invited to make.

One room is devoted entirely to a slideshow of images of the collective, from 2005 to the present.  Also on display are three tART projects by Anna Lise Jensen: a reading by tART members of Tania Brughuera's Migrant Manifesto; a collaboration with the performance-publishing duo, Ladies of the Press, UK; and responses to an Open Call that Jensen placed within the collective and on Wooloo.org, for submissions to a contemporary, feminist dinner table.

For the the second part of the exhibition, Vance and Lyn Kee-Chow are inviting a guest curator to create a new exhbition with tART, on a theme rooted in recent discussions within the collective - on aesthetics and politics.

tART Organizers: damali abrams, Jodie Lyn Kee-Chow, Anna Lise Jensen, Deborah Pohl and Kathleen Vance.

What's in a Collective II

"The members of two collectives - tART (NYC) and Ladies of the Press* (London) - are pleased to collaborate for the first time for What’s In a Collective? Part II. Six months ago, the question was posed in an exhibition by and about tART at A.I.R. Gallery and, on December 30th, one answer - support structure and collaborations - will be performed and displayed at Brick Brooklyn, a real estate office that doubles as a gallery. The exhibition, partially created on December 30th, will be on view until February 30th, 2011."
